The Board of EBLEX Ltd

The Board of EBLEX Ltd has 15 members appointed from across the beef and sheep sector, and is chaired by Norfolk producer John Cross.

Meetings are held across the country four times a year, and are accompanied in each instance by Open Meetings for levy payers.

John Cross
Chairman of the current EBLEX Ltd Board and EBLEX Ltd Beef Better Returms Steering Committee

A fifth generation farmer, John farms a mixed livestock and arable enterprise in Norfolk. He previously served on the National Farmers’ Union Livestock Committee for seven years and is a former Chairman of both the Lamb Promotion Council and the merged Beef and Lamb Promotion Council.

John sits on the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, and is Chairman of the current EBLEX Ltd Board. He also chairs the EBLEX Ltd Beef Better Returns Programme Steering Committee.


Jonathan Barber

Jonathan is Chief Executive of the British Charollais Sheep Society and Chairman of the Charollais Sires. He is also Chairman of CST Recorded Ram Marketing and Chairman of the Sheepbreeders’ Roundtable. Jonathan runs a pedigree Charollais sheep breeding flock in Norfolk.

He and his wife are partners in their own business providing services to farming organisations and also farm ducks, geese and arable crops.


Malcolm Corbett

A hill farmer from Newcastle Upon Tyne, Malcolm is the Vice Chairman of the National Farmers' Union Livestock Board and Regional Chairman of the National Beef Association. He is also a former Regional Chairman of the National Sheep Association.

He runs a herd of 40 cows and performance records his flock of 650 ewes.


James Fanshawe

James is a fourth generation farmer running a beef suckler and finishing unit of 270 cattle and 160 breeding ewes in Northamptonshire. He specialises in British breeds aimed at niche markets. An accountant by profession with 35 years experience in a large accountancy firm, James is also a member of the Gloucester Cattle Society Council.


David Fleetwood

David Fleetwood has held the post of Group Operations Director for Anglo Beef Processors since June 2000, and has been employed by the Company for 18 years. Having worked within the sector for 30 years, David has a broad range of experience, and has held a number of non-executive positions with industry related bodies. His current role at ABP brings him into contact with livestock producers; retail, manufacturing and food service customers.


John Hoskin

John farms 1,500 acres in Dorset and Cornwall in partnership with his family. He runs 1300 breeding ewes, fattens 500 black and white bulls under a cost plus contract, finishes 700 other cattle and grows 850 acres of arable crops. The farms are entered in both Countryside Stewardship and Entry Level schemes. John served on the EBLEX Sheep Better Returns Steering Group and currently sits on the EBLEX Beef Better Returns Steering Group. He has served on the current EBLEX Board since 2002.


Peter Kingwill

An auctioneer from the South West, Peter is Managing Director of Premier Livestock Auctions which operates at Frome and Yeovill.

A member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Peter is also a former Chairman of the Livestock Auctioneers’ Association of England and Wales, and a member of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers. Peter has served on the current EBLEX Board since 2002.


Alistair Mackintosh

A member of the National Farmers’ Union Livestock Board, Alistair is a tenant farmer of 640 acres in Cumbria and owns a further 100 acres. He farms in partnership with his wife, and runs 1,200 breeding ewes, 130 cows and 100 acres of arable crops. A bull beef finisher, he is a member of the EBLEX Beef Better Returns Steering Group.


Frank Momber

Vice Chairman of the National Beef Association, Frank runs a commercial 150 cow stabilizer beef suckler herd in partnership with his son Peter in Hampshire. He finishes all his stock on farm.

Frank has served on the current EBLEX Board since 2002.


Professor Robert Pickard

Professor Pickard is a former Director General of the British Nutrition Foundation and Chairman of the Consumers’ Association. He is also Chairman of Defra’s Radioactive Waste Management Committee, Chairman of the NGO Forum and Visiting Professor at the Royal College of Agriculture at Cirencester.


Mike Powley

Mike is a fourth generation farmer finishing beef cattle near York. He runs 100 suckler cows through to finished product, producing quality bulls with high growth rates for the export market. He also runs his own box scheme using beef from his heifers. Mike is a member of the EBLEX Beef Better Returns Steering Group.


David Raine

David is Chairman of the National Sheep Association and farms a 1,200 acre hill and lowland family partnership in Cumbria with 700 head of cattle and 4,000 breeding sheep. On his own farm he runs 1,100 breeding ewes and finishes 300 cattle for major retailers and local butchers.

He is also a former Chairman of MLC’s Sheep Strategy Council and has served on the current EBLEX Board since 2002.


Kevin Swoffer

Kevin is an independent consultant with over 30 years’ experience in the food and drink industry.

His background is in food safety management and the development of quality control systems. Kevin spent 19 years with Safeway Stores Ltd, and is a former Chairman of the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Technical Committee. While at the BRC he helped introduce a number of global food safety initiatives. He has also advised the UK Food Standards Agency on a number of issues including hygiene regulations, incident management and preventing food fraud.


Simon Warren

Based in Northampton, Simon has over 30 years experience in the meat and meat processing industries. He is a technical consultant to a medium –sized beef abattoir in Yorkshire, a multi national meat company and a multi millon pound national foodservice company. He was formerly UK Group Technical Manager for British Beef and Weddel Swift and subsequently Kepak UK Ltd.


Ryan Williams

Ryan is the co-owner of Centrally Packed Meats in Manchester. Formerly the Group Sales Manager at Anglo Beef Processors, Ryan trained in meat industry and technology at Blackpool College of Food technology. He worked as a retail buyer on meat and poultry for five years at British Home Stores and has also worked for Randall Parker Foods.
