South West event to examine market opportunities

Market opportunities for beef and lamb will be under the spotlight at the first EBLEX South West regional conference next month.

The free one-day event will look at the role of livestock in the climate change debate and the importance of the English market, as well as examining the global prospects for beef and lamb and future export opportunities.

The conference, which will take place in Cullompton, Devon, on Wednesday 1st February, is the ideal opportunity for those involved with the red meat industry in the region to find out more about the work of EBLEX.

Speakers will include Dr Judith Capper, assistant professor of dairy science at Washington State University, talking about livestock and climate change, and Nick Davies, group agricultural development manager for Dunbia, presenting on the current conditions for the English market. The conference will also feature EBLEX consumer marketing manager Jane Ritchie-Smith looking at marketing for the next decade and Peter Hardwick, EBLEX head of trade development, speaking about global prospects for beef and lamb.

“This will be the first regional conference that we’ve held, and we’re hoping to arrange another one in the northern region later in the year,” said Dr Phil Hadley, EBLEX senior regional manager – southern region.

“We hope that by holding these events in the major beef and lamb producing regions, we can reach more of our levy payers and give them the opportunity to find out about the work we’re doing on the home and export markets and meet with members of our team.”
