Sheep Breeders Round Table offers expert advice

A biennial event which brings together the cream of the UK sheep industry to drive efficiency and innovation in the sector will take place in Nottingham later this year.

This year’s theme is The Future is Bright, and the conference will discuss whether the best way forward hinges on profitability, genetic improvement, an efficiency supply chain or applied research.

The EBLEX-supported event, which takes place from 4th to 6th November, features presentations from a number of industry experts covering all aspects of sheep production, as well as being a useful networking opportunity in the sheep sector calendar.

Speakers at the 2011 conference include:
• Gregor Ingram, Farmers Weekly Sheep Farmer of the Year 2010
• John Vipond, SAC
• Alex Ball, Sheep CRC & Meat and Livestock Australia
• Charlie Morgan, GrassMaster.

There will also be presentations from Waitrose, Dunbia and Marks & Spencer. Stuart Ashworth from QMS and Kim Matthews from EBLEX will be speaking, along with researchers from SAC, IBERS and University of Warwick.

“The sheep industry in this country is currently enjoying a sustained period of high prices, however there is always more producers can do to improve the quality and quantity of their lambs,” said Liz Genever, of EBLEX, secretary of Sheep Breeders Round Table..

“Sheep Breeders Round Table is an excellent opportunity for producers to meet with like-minded people and benefit from practical advice which can make a real difference to their business.”
